Michael J. Wright of Vacaville went home to his beloved Lord on Aug. 22nd, 2019. He was 85 years of age and was a fourth generation Californian with roots back to the gold rush days.
He was born on April 21, 1934 to Thomas and Hildred Wright in Pasadena. He grew up in Alameda and attended St. Joseph’s Grammar School. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School and continued his education at the College of San Mateo and the University of California in Berkeley.
He served in the United States Army Medical Corps after graduating from the Medical-Dental Specialty School at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas. He was assigned to the European Command and spent the next fourteen months as an assistant in Oral Surgery at a large Dispensary-Clinic near Kaiserslautern, Germany. After an Honorable discharge, he returned to Alameda and soon met the love of his life, Barbara. They were married on June 22, 1957 in Burlingame.
In 1957 Michael joined a successful franchised Chevrolet Dealer in the San Francisco area and remained with that multi franchise group for the next 13 years. In 1962 he was transferred to Lake Oswego, Oregon to establish the business management and accounting responsibilities of a Chevrolet franchise the parent company had acquired. In 1960 he graduated from the General Motors Post Graduate School in Detroit. He returned to the San Francisco area and was named Corporate Secretary/Treasurer and Controller of the Parent Company.
In 1970 Michael retired from the Chevrolet Business and the family relocated to the Sacramento Valley where they had purchased 104-acre almond orchard with 4600 producing trees. Michael and Barbara, along with their daughters enjoyed the work and operation of the orchard along with the care of the buildings and equipment.
In 1986 Michael and Barbara moved south to the Palm Desert area to be near Barbara’s mother. Michael entered the Real Estate business and experienced great success along with developing lifelong friendships with his clients. He retired in 2006, having completed his 20th year in Real Estate.
He was a member of several service organizations and was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Scottish Rite, a Shriner, a past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star and was a Past Master of two Northern California Masonic Lodges.
He is survived by his three daughters, Susan of Winters, Karen Lorenzo (John) of Winters, and Sharon Warren (Robert) of Winters. And five grandchildren John, Anthony, Robert, Sarah and Steven. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, Peter and Tom Jr. and his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara. He spoke often of his anticipation and joy of joining his Lord and Savior in Heaven. He was a devout and dedicated Christian. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
