William Leroy Green, 76, of Davis, passed away on August 15th, 2026.

Bill was passionate about his work and spending time with family.

William “Bill” was born in Ashland, Kentucky, on July 1st, 1950 to George William Paul Green and Edith Ophelia Jones. Bill spent his childhood in Kentucky and later in Vacaville, California, where he graduated from Vacaville High School.

In 1970, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam as a Huey helicopter repairman and door gunner, assisting in combat rescue. He was honorably released from active duty in 1973, having attained the rank of Sergeant, and having received the National Defense Service Medal,Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and an Air Medal. After serving in Vietnam, he moved to Missoula, Montana, attending the University of Montana. In 1974, he married Shari McEvers, and they had two children, Gwen Laurie Green and Joshua Steven Green.

In 1980, they moved to Arizona, where they lived in Mesa, Tempe, and Payson. Bill worked in construction as a skilled drywall craftsman, specializing in Santa Fe and skip-trowel textures. Over the years, he also managed restaurants and performed standup comedy in local clubs. In 1989, they moved to Fairfield, and later to Davis, where Bill continued to work in drywall and construction, apartment maintenance, and later as maintenance director for Atria Covell Gardens. In 2004, he married Kathryn Green of Davis. In the years that followed, he earned his general contractor’s license and established his family business, “Bill Green Maintenance Service,” which successfully remodeled many homes throughout Yolo County, working alongside stepsons Michael and David Peart.

Bill was passionate about his work and spending time with family. In his spare time, he enjoyed being in nature at nearby lakes and reading.

He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family, his selflessness, and extraordinarily kind spirit.

Bill battled ongoing health issues throughout the later years of his life, which he approached with enormous resilience and strength. He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family, his selflessness, and extraordinarily kind spirit. He was the strongest of men, with the gentlest of hearts, and he left a lasting impression on those lucky enough to know him.

Bill is survived by his wife, Kathryn Green; daughter Gwen Laurie Green and her husband, Aerin Gladish Sr.; son Joshua Steven Green and his wife, Katie Speck Green; and stepchildren David Peart, Michelle Damante and her husband, Elmo Damante III, and Lisa Peart-Velez and her husband, Carlos Velez III; Laura Selover; and grandchildren Kayla Peart, Zoe Glynn- Green, Keelan Gladish, Alexandra Ryn Green and Adam Lee Green. He is preceded in death by stepson Michael Peart, siblings Paul, Nancy, and Sue; and many fellow soldiers with whom he served in Vietnam.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 28, at Davis Cemetery, 820 Pole Line Rd., Davis. A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, 1701 Russell Blvd., Davis. Reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lutheran Church of the Incarnation in Davis.
