Michael Kevin Krell, 65 years of age, born in Manhattan on July, 22nd 1942 to Helen Ina Pritchard and Donald Krell, passed away on June, 23rd 2008 of heart disease.
Mike is much beloved by his two daughters, Diana Krell of Oakland CA. and Athena Chapman of San Francisco, her husband Joshua Chapman, Mikes partner Cathleen Edmonds of Davis, and his wife Helen Krell.
Mike was an active member of the Davis community for the past 27 years. He was the owner of Armadillo Music in Davis and an active member in the Downtown Davis Business Association. Michael was educated at the State University in Albany, New York, received his Law Degree from the University of California Berkeley, Boalt Hall, and his Masters in Criminology from the University of California Berkeley. Michael was dedicated to the Justice department in the State of Vermont where he served for many years as a Lawyer, Court Administrator for the entire state, and the Chief Administrator for the New England Governors Association. He returned to California in 1981 where he served as the Court administrator for the County of Sacramento and continued his work in Court Administration until his retirement in April of 1993.
He was a champion of the less fortunate, working privately and professionally for those for whom society neglected. Mike was a mentor to young people, offering them companionship, employment and attention, that influenced them for the rest of their lives. He assisted several people in their admission into law school. Mike loved music, books, Davis and the many people he invited into his life and home. He loved good conversation, good food and good wine. He was a prolific reader, and possessed a vast wealth of knowledge that he loved to share and discuss. He was a loyal friend, and he will be missed as the most enjoyable figure any of us will ever have had the pleasure of knowing. Michael was the proudest father of his two daughters. No man could be so replete with regard and unending admiration of them.
Michael is survived by his two daughters, his partner, his son-in-law, his wife, his sister Karen Farfield of Albany, NY, his Aunt and Uncle Ted and Sis Traub of Bethlehem, CT. as well as many other family members across the country and dear friends throughout the world.
A celebration of Michaels life is scheduled for Saturday, June 28th at 1:00 pm at The Palms Playhouse, 13 Main Street, in Winters, CA. In lieu of flowers, Michael would have loved donations to charities that he held dear; Doctors without Borders, the Sacramento Blues Society, and The Art and Science Fusion at the University of California, Davis.
