Maurice Todd McMurdo was born March 4, 1963, in San Francisco, and died September 25, 2009 at his Davis home. Todd was and will remain a beloved hero to many of those who knew him. He was an outstanding age group swimmer for Redding Swim Team and continued swimming in high school and college. He received his BA in Business from Cal State at Bakersfield and worked summer breaks as lifeguard with Malibu Beach, his favorite. He worked as an asphalt estimator, heavy equipment hydraulics inspector and ran his own business.
He met the light of his life, Alysia Thomas, in Bakersfield where they first became friends. Todd and Alysia were to be married October 24th at Davis where they both lived. He is remembered for his gentle ways, his calming influence, his kindness, and generous care of people and animals. The tragic loss of Todd is only the more grave in leaving his loved ones, especially Alysia, at what is much too young an age. Todd died unexpectedly Friday morning from heart failure. Sutter Davis Hospital staff was unable to revive Todd. Alysia and the family are grateful for their efforts. Todd was a loving man whom Jesus will remember.
Todd was predeceased by his father, James Howard McMurdo, Professor Emeritus Shasta College; and survived by Alysia Thomas, Davis, California; his mother, Maurita McMurdo and his sister, Dawn Maurita McMurdo, Dixon, California; his brother, Thomas Trent McMurdo, Redding, California; his two nieces, Lindsay Dabney, Redding and Hailey Hartman, Hollywood; and an aunt, Neilann Autenrieth Martinez of Yountville, California.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 2, 2009 at 11 AM at Wiscombe Funeral Home, 116 D Street, Davis, led by Mitch Darnell.
