Mary Kristine "Kris" Clark died at home on Thursday, Sept. 11, after a long battle with melanoma, trusting in Jesus Christ and surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Kristine Bauer was born June 23, 1952 in San Francisco, the third child of seven to Dr. Edward and Mary Bauer of Fremont.
Kris met Richard "Dick" Clark in 1971 and they were married on May 13, 1972, the beginning of a lifelong partnership they both cherished. They eventually settled in Davis where they had first met. Kris applied tremendous creativity and energy to her roles as wife and mother.
In 1978, Kris met Rev. P.G. Mathew, who shared the gospel of Jesus Christ with her from the pages of Scripture. Kris believed the gospel and put her trust in Christ. She was a member of Grace Valley Christian Center for 30 years, and was known for her deep faith in God, her love for the Word of God, and her tireless acts of service in the church.
After raising her two children, James and Sarah, Kris attended Sacramento State, where she completed her bachelors degree in child development in 1998 and her multi-subject teaching credential in 1999. She graduated summa cum laude and was named "Student of the Year" by the Education Department at CSUS.
Kris was assistant director of Davis Parent Nursery School from 1993 to 1996, and director of the program from 2006 to 2008. She taught elementary school in the River Delta School District from 2000 to 2005, most of the time at Clarksburg Elementary School where her husband had attended school in his youth. Kris brought the same energy and devotion to her professional life with young children that she had applied to her own family.
Kris is survived by Richard, her loving husband of 36 years; her children, James Clark and Sarah Breitenbach; her brothers, Greg, Steve and David; and sisters Jane, Kate and Beth; her grandchildren, John Justin and Julia; her cousin Sue; and other beloved relatives. These and all who knew her will remember her with tenderest love and for her favorite and often-repeated statement, "Life is short live for Christ."
A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at Grace Valley Christian Center, 27173 County Road 98 in Davis. A private graveside service will precede the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Yolo Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
