Marcy Lorfing

November 16, 1938 — December 22, 2017

Marcy passed away suddenly, but peacefully, of natural causes in Davis, California, on December 22, 2017, at the age of 79.  Born Marcella Marie Wallace in Longview, Washington, she and her family moved to San Jose, California, in 1945, where she lived for the majority of her life.  She graduated from San Jose High School, and earned a BA degree in English from San Jose State.  She retired from Lockheed Martin in 2003, with over 20 years of service in the fields of technical writing and communications.

Marcy’s true passions were family, teaching and writing.  Prior to her career at Lockheed, she taught English and drama at middle schools and high schools in California and Washington.  She was an avid and prolific reader, and passed on her love of the written word and the joy of learning to her students.

She grew up in a large, extended maternal family, and was considered the family historian to her seven aunts and uncles, and 32 cousins.  She is survived by 29 cousins who will remember her for her intelligence, her humor, and love of discussing politics.

She and her husband, Bill, moved to Sacramento in 2004 to be near family.  Shortly after moving to the Sacramento area, she joined OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) in Davis, where she taught memoir writing, literature courses, and movie appreciation courses, and served as President of the Davis OLLI chapter for two years.  She moved to Davis in 2015 to be closer to her OLLI family.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, her son Mark Flynn, daughter Amy Flynn (Dan Schiappacasse), grandchildren Zoe and Max Schiappacasse, brother Mike (Diane) Wallace, sister Barbara (Emmett) Taft, niece Sherry Wallace, nephew Jeff Wallace, and stepfather John Bialkowski.
