Linda Ellen MacIntyre

May 15, 1943 — March 7, 2026

Long-time Davis resident, Linda Ellen (Sobel) MacIntyre passed away on March 7, 2026. She had been living in Sacramento since 2017 and will be greatly missed by many people.

Linda was born on May 15, 1943 to Maxwell and Virginia Sobel in Phoenix, Arizona, and was raised near her mother’s relatives in Syracuse, New York. After she graduated with honors from Nottingham High School in 1960, she moved with her family back to the Phoenix area. She attended Arizona State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1964.

Linda married James (Jim) MacIntyre while she was in college on June 2, 1962 at the Phoenix church where they met. Upon finishing her Bachelor’s degree, Linda and Jim moved to Tucson to earn their Master’s degrees at the University of Arizona. After completing her Master of Arts in Elementary Education in 1966, they welcomed their son, William. Linda began her career in education as an elementary school teacher in Tucson, and they welcomed their daughter, Nancy, before moving to Davis, California in 1970.

Always an educator, Linda held a variety of teaching positions in Yolo and Sacramento counties, including adults with developmental disabilities, general education and career development at the Sacramento Army Depot, and as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. After her retirement, Linda was an active volunteer with the Sacramento Literacy Program, the Sutter Davis Hospital Auxiliary where she held leadership roles, and she found being a driver for the American Cancer Society very rewarding.

With her warm smile and caring personality, Linda made friends everywhere life led her. She was a good listener as well as a good conversationalist, and she took great pleasure in meeting new people in her work and volunteer positions. Together Linda and Jim made life-long friends by participating in a Marriage Encounter Circle, and they enjoyed performances at the Davis Musical Theater Company. She loved traveling both near and far with Jim and their family, most memorably in Europe and Israel. She also traveled with her mother to Hawaii, with her daughter to Japan, and to Disneyland with her daughter’s family. She was always supportive of her grandchildren’s activities by attending athletic events, musical performances, and class plays. In the senior communities where Linda lived in Sacramento, she was active in the resident’s council and drama club, and she enjoyed playing word games and bingo. Linda also loved the companionship of her lap dogs, which were all adopted from local animal shelters.

Linda was predeceased in 2016 by her beloved husband of 54 years, Jim. She is survived by her son William, daughter Nancy (Tom) Bianchini, and granddaughters Emily and Angelina, as well as her brother-in-law David (Charmayne) MacIntyre, nieces and nephews and their families.
