Leona Narr passed away peacefully on October 12th after a short battle with a lung disease she has had for many years. She was surrounded by family and friends in the days leading up to her death, and was holding her daughter’s hand as she drew her last breath. She was given the gift of being able to say goodbye to some of the important people in her life, and loved telling them they needed to “Keep on loving life, and keep on doin’. “
Born on November 5, 1943 in Mobile, Alabama, her family settled in Sacramento, where she was a cheerleader at Grant Union High School. She met the love of her life, Walt Narr, while he was stationed there in the Airforce, and they married in 1964. 62 years of marriage that sustained them through the tragedies and triumphs of life.
She had various jobs over the years, including secretary at the Rectory of St. James Church, and a Counselor at Farmhouse, a Yolo Community Care Continuum long-term live-work treatment program. Most notably she and Walt led grief counseling for people who had experienced a loved one’s death by suicide, and worked to bring a regional counseling program for suicide prevention to peace officers.
The hobby she and my Dad enjoyed the most was participating in Old West Reenactments with various groups in their region. She was known as Shotgun Lucy, and there were many performances on trains and in historic downtown settings.
She considered her life’s work to be loving her family – and that included the family she was born into and the family she chose. Lucky indeed were those in that circle.
Leona is survived by her husband, Walt Narr; daughter, Anita Boone (Jeff Boone); and grandchildren Adam and Eric Boone; Eddie and Jake Narr; Peyton and Jack Narr. Preceded in death by their twin sons Paul and Walter Narr, and all of her three siblings: Michael Williamson, JoAnn Goodner and John Young.
Celebration of Life will be on October 24th at 10:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, 1701 Russell Blvd, Davis. She didn’t want “gloom and doom” – please wear “bright and cheerful.” In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to suicide prevention. https://giving.AFSP.org/campaign/722512/donate
