Julie Brewer

June 6, 1920 — September 6, 2007

Julie Brewer, a 7-year resident of the University Retirement Community at Davis, passed away September 6, 2007, shortly after being diagnosed with angiosarcoma.

Born in Aberdeen, Washington on June 6, 1920, Julia Evlin Olson was the first child of David Olson from Sweden and Mari Torkveen Olson from Norway. After graduating from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen, she attended Whitworth College for a year before going to work for the Grays Harbor Public Utility District. On March 29, 1943, she married Scott Brewer, the young pastor of the Presbyterian church in nearby Montesano. Scott soon went into the service as a Navy chaplain, and Julie followed him and continued her studies at Wagner College (New York) and at the University of Southern California. After the War, Scott and Julie started their family while Scott was associate pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles. The family moved to the growing San Fernando Valley in 1949 when Scott became the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Encino. After Scotts retirement in 1978, they continued to live in Encino and celebrated their 50th anniversary there before Scotts death in December 1993. In June 2000, after over 50 years in Encino, Julie moved north to Davis to become one of the original residents of the University Retirement Community. Always active in church life, she soon joined the Davis Community Church.

Julies brother Elmer died in 1992. Julie is survived by son David and his wife Phyllis; son Bill and his wife Theresa; granddaughters Karen, Christa, Scarlett, and Lissa; and sister-in-law Dorothy Olson.

There will be a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, September 13, at the Davis Community Church. Julie will be buried alongside Scott at the Oakwood Cemetery in Chatsworth, California, with a graveside service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 15. Remembrances may be made to the Davis Community Church, the First Presbyterian Church of Encino, or the University Retirement Community Foundation.
