John Howard Mureness passed away on June 21, 2012 in Davis, California, at the age of 71 years after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on June 20, 1941 in Little Falls, New York and grew up in Fort Plain, New York, graduating from Fort Plain High School in 1959. He joined the Army shortly afterwards and trained as a combat medic, serving in both Vietnam and Thailand. He also attended the State University of New York at Albany. Upon leaving the military, he worked as a registered nurse in the California Bay Area. John was an avid contract bridge player and won several regional tournaments around the country during the 1980s. He also was an excellent billiards player and bowler. His other hobbies included reading, military history, crossword puzzles, and golf. John is survived by his three children, William, Rima, and Thomas, and five grandchildren: Brianna, Hazel, Christian, Nicholas, and Kaylah. He also remained close to his ex-wife Kim. He was pre-deceased by both parents, Howard Mureness and Doris Oeser.
