Henry Arcangel

It is with great sadness that the family of Henry Carino Arcangel announces his passing on Thursday, July 19, 2018, at the age of 77, at home and surrounded by family and friends. Henry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Linda, and his children, Phillip (Raquel), Lori (Doug), and Lynne (Jacques). Henry will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Malaya, Luke, Rebecca, and Phoebe, and by his brothers, Cesar (Linda) and Jimmy (Ruby).

Born October 21, 1940 in Navotas, Philippines, to Felipe and Librada Arcangel, Henry obtained his bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of the Philippines, Los Banos in 1960. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1960 while in the Philippines and moved to the United States, where he served for 8 years (1960-1968). Following his military career, Henry was eager to learn from U.S. universities and earned numerous certificates from Cornell and Harvard. In 1968, Henry and Linda married and moved permanently from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Davis, California.

Henry’s professional career spanned various corporate accounting positions in the grocery industry, including a project manager position overseas in Saudi Arabia. Over the past 40 years, he also assisted hundreds of clients with immigration and tax accounting services. It was Henry’s immigration and U.S. citizenship experience that started a long chain of events with several family members following suit to build their American dreams, resulting in multiple generations of family members and dozens of clients and friends succeeding in their own pursuits of citizenship through his prowess.

Henry resided in his El Macero home for 42 years. It gave him great joy to spend time with his large extended family and his friends, and to play a good game of rummy. He will be missed by many.

A rosary and viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 4-8 p.m., at the Smith Funeral Home, 116 D St, Davis, CA. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B St, Davis, CA. Reception to follow in the St. James Catholic hall after the mass.
