Gerie Pedersen

On July 10th Geraldine Hutchings Pedersen—affectionately known as Gerie— passed away from Alzheimer’s Disease. Gerie was born in Overton, Nevada, on February 20th, 1943, and raised in the surrounding Moapa Valley.

Gerie was the oldest child of Luana Whipple Hutchings and Wendell Edward Hutchings. She graduated from Moapa Valley High School and attended Brigham Young University, where she majored in music.

Gerie met her husband, Niels Christian Pedersen, in high school; they married in 1964 in Logandale, NV. The couple spent the first three years of their married life in Davis, followed by stints in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Canberra Australia, and returning to Davis in 1972. In 1981, the couple moved to Winters. In 1984, Gerie returned to school and earned her LVN degree, working as a cardiology nurse at Woodland Hospital.

Gerie loved the view from her Winters home, taking walks near Lake Solano, Thai food, and anything Beethoven. She was a gifted musician, who shared her musical talents with church and community. She never turned down a chance to entertain or meet with friends and will forever be remembered for her childlike sense of humor, her meatloaf recipe, and her annual Holiday piano medleys, thoughtfully fashioned from a mashup of Christmas songs.

Gerie is survived by her husband, Niels Pedersen; children, Stephanie Pedersen (and husband Richard Joseph Demler), Holly Lynn Pedersen (and partner Signe Ruth Ericksen), Collin Christian Pedersen, and Megan Leigh Pedersen (and husband Chris Lee Anderson); her grandchildren, Leif Christian Pedersen, Anders Gyldenvalde Pedersen, Soren Niels Anderson Pedersen, Axel Sune Lund Pedersen, Anjou Sollilja Anderson Pedersen, Owen Christian Pedersen, Sawyer Evan Pedersen and Glory Snow Pedersen; and her sister, Patricia Hutchings Lewis.

A celebration of life will be held on August 2 from 2 -5 pm at the Pedersen home.
