George Kresa

George Louis Kresa died of a vascular ailment Sunday, December 22, 2013 in Port Townsend, WA while visiting family members for the holidays. He was 90 years old. Born February 23, 1923 in Chicago, Il., George lived a long and full life. He was an Army Air Corps Pilot during WWII, assigned to the 375th Bombardment Squadron and made numerous trips over the 'Hump' between India and China to obtain gasoline, bombs, spare parts, and other items they needed to prepare for and sustain their combat operations. The 375th supported Chinese ground forces; attacked airfields, coal yards, docks, oil refineries and fuel dumps in French Indochina; mined rivers and ports; bombed maintenance shops and docks at Rangoon, Burma; attacked Japanese shipping in the East China Sea, Formosa Straits, South China Sea and Gulf of Tonkin. The squadron moved to India in June 1945, ferrying gasoline and supplies from there back into China. George was honorably discharged shortly before the unit sailed for the United States, where it was inactivated on 6 January 1946. After his service to his country, George earned his Bachelor's degree at the University of Dubuque in IA. In 1949, he married Margery his bride of 53 yrs. He worked as an Industrial Floor Salesman before retiring and moving to Winters. There, he began his second career as an Organic Walnut Farmer. After Margery died in 2002, George met and married Marilyn. They moved to Sun City in Lincoln Hills, CA. George enjoyed his second retirement and could be found at 6:30 every morning on the treadmill at the community gym. He became a member of the Lincoln Hills Community Church Building Committee and a founding, active member of the church. He enjoyed building furniture and was an avid salmon fisherman, casting into the waters of the San Francisco Bay, Alaska and British Columbia. George is survived by his children; Sue and Frank Pignataro, Bill and Teri Kresa, Charles and Kathy Kresa and Chris Kresa and grandchildren; Tim and Michalee Pignataro, andy and Nancy Pignataro and Nick Kresa. George's life will be celebrated at a service this Saturday, December 28th at 11:00 at the Lincoln Hills Community Church - 950 E. Joiner Pkwy. Lincoln, CA. Friends may visit following the service from 4 - 6 p.m. at Wiscombe Funeral Home - 34 Main St. Winters, CA and are invited to attend the graveside committal on Monday, Dec. 30th at 10 a.m. at the Winters Cemetery - 425 Cemetery Drive, Winters, CA.
