Eloise DeVoe

February 12, 1919 — August 4, 2008

Long-time Davis resident, Eloise L. DeVoe, died on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the age of 89. Eloise was born on February 12, 1919 on a small family farm near Haxtun, Colorado. Eloise and her parents stayed on their beloved farm as long as they could, but the dust bowl era forced the family to relocate to a new small family farm near Grandview, Washington in 1937. While living in Washington, Eloise graduated from Washington State Teachers College in Ellensburg, Washington. After graduation, Eloise taught elementary school in both Washington and California until she moved to Davis in 1948 and, in 1949, married Robert C. (Bob) DeVoe, who was an industrial arts teacher at Davis Senior High for over 35 years. Eloise and Bob resided in their home on Russell Blvd. until Bobs death in 1996. In 1999, Eloise moved into an apartment at University Retirement Community. She lived at the Community until her death.

During her years in Davis, Eloise supported Bob in his teaching career and with raising her only child, Sharon. She was also very active with Davis Community Church.

Eloise is preceded in death by her father and mother, Irvie and Alta Bailey Lapp and, her husband, Bob. Eloise is surviving by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bruce Fitch, her devoted caregiver, Vani McClain, a nephew and niece-in-law, Gary and Cheryl DeVoe of Grandview, Washington, as well as many, many friends.

A memorial service will be held in Davis, California on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at the Davis Community Church. A graveside service will be held in Grandview, Washington, tentatively scheduled for August 16, 2008. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Lapp DeVoe Memorial Fund held through Davis Community Church.
