Elaine Holt

Elaine Holt, while surrounded by her family and friends, passed away peacefully October 11, 2007 in Sacramento after a six month fight with lung cancer.

Born May 1, 1930 in Evanston, Illinois to Irving and Lauraette Smith, she moved with her family to Belmont, California and graduated from Sequoia High School in 1948 excelling in English. Elaine met Jack Holt on a blind date, decided he was a keeper, and married him in August of 1957. The couple lived in many California communities before coming to Davis in 1974 to stay. Once in Davis, Elaine began work as a secretary at the University of California, and worked for Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and finally finished her career in the Chemistry department; where she was known for her excellent typing skills and helped several professors and graduate students prepare their books and dissertations for publishing. More importantly, Elaine was known for her candy dish and bright smile she had for every student or faculty member that approached her desk.

Elaine is survived by her sons Greg, Bob, Jim Holt, and Glen Thomas and their wives Bobbie, Holly, Stephanie and Dena; sister, Lauralee and brother-in-law Jack Verderame; grandchildren Jason, Rachael, Jeremy, Derek, Trevor, Harrison, Garret, Kaitlyn and Kyle; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were all very dear to Elaine.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 11:30 A.M. in the UC Davis University Club and all those who knew and loved Elaine are encouraged to come.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Elaines memory to the American Lung Association.
