Alexander C. Duncan, 92, of Davis, California passed away Friday, September 19, 2008. He has been an area resident for more than 50 years.
Alex was born April 21, 1916 in Klamath County, Oregon to William A. and Claire Ferris Duncan. He grew up as a farmer and rancher in Oregon, and worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Teichert Construction Company for 20 years. Alex served in the 8th Calvary Regiment, 1st Calvary Division and United States Army during World War II. He received two Purple Hearts for wounds during the Liberation of the Philippines. He also wore the Combat Infantrymans Badge. His unit was among the first to occupy Japan. He was a Sergeant, Squad Leader, when discharged in 1945.
He was an active member of the Davis Senior Citizens Center, a life member of the VFW, and with his wife Mary a dedicated member of the Lodi Travel Club.
Alex was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Barnes Duncan, and by his first and second wives, Elizabeth and Viola Duncan; and, by his sister Ruby Matthews.
Alex is survived by his step-daughters Barbara Timmons of Athens, Georgia and Beverly Beall of Paradise, California; brother Claire Duncan, and sisters Mary Barkhurst of Merrill, Oregon and sister Alice Krohne. He was Grandpa Alex to Jennifer Riley, and to Cate and Cullen Timmons of Atlanta and Athens, Georgia.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at the Davis Cemetery, under the direction of Wiscombes Davis Funeral Chapel.
