Albert Kenneth Guyan passed away May 19, 2026 in Fairfield, CA. He was born July 7, 1926 to Alfred & Dahlia Guyan in their family home in Cordelia. An only child, he grew up playing with his cousins and other local farm kids. Albert attended elementary school in a local, one-room schoolhouse. Throughout his childhood, he loved playing baseball, basketball and hunting with his father. In his teen years, he worked on the family’s fruit ranch in Green Valley and many other Solano County farms for seasonal harvests. At the age of 14, he began as a volunteer firefighter at the Cordelia Fire District and in his senior year of High School, worked at TAPATCO Textile Plant until graduating from Armijo High School, Class of 1944.
Albert joined the United States Army at 18 years old and was stationed at Camp Beale. His time in the service was spent working in textiles, making uniforms, repairing machines and managing supplies. After completing his tour of duty, he returned to work at TAPATCO, which transitioned to Campco, where he worked up the ranks to become the Vice President of Manufacturing. All the while, resuming his volunteer work at Cordelia Fire District, quickly advancing to Captain.
In 1953, Al was introduced Carol Jean Maier through mutual friends. They fell in love, married in 1955 and purchased a plot of land next to his parents’ home. Together with Al’s father, they built the home that they would live in for the remainder of their lives. Al and Carol welcomed their first child, Greg, in 1956, then Christy in 1960. They were active members of Trinity Lutheran Church, The Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and the Cordelia Fire District Auxillary. As their family expanded, Campco was relocating to the East Coast. Al made the decision to remain in California and began a new career at Suisun Roofing, where he served as the Manager, and continued his work with Cordelia Fire District, where he advanced to “Chief” in 1964. His greatest accomplishments with the district were founding the Junior Fire Fighter Program, raising funds to modernize the district’s antiquated equipment and creating events that would bring the entire community together at the Station Hall, such as annual Harvest Dances, BBQ’s and pancake Breakfasts. Al retired as Chief from the Cordelia Fire District in 1991, at the age of 65 and from the Cordelia Fire District Board of Directors in 1995. He continued working at Suisun Roofing until 2024, retiring at the age of 98.
Preceded in death by his “Sweetheart”, Carol Jean Guyan, he is survived by his children, Greg (& Teresa) and Christy (& Dave); Grandchildren, Matthew (& Sherrine), Megan, Isabella, Aaron, Laura (& Manveer) and Gregory; four great grandchildren, Olivia, Vivian, Baaz and Revenna.
