WARD ASHLEY DUTTON

Ward Ashley Dutton, 48, a former resident of Davis, passed away unexpectedly on March 22, 2010 at his home in southern California. He was born on April 23, 1961 in Walnut Creek, California to Thomas Bruce and Eina Anderson Dutton.

Ward and his brother, Tyler, came to Davis in 1970 with their parents. He attended Davis Senior High School where he was a member of the ski and football teams, and during that time, he served as a counselor in the Parks and Recreation Department, assisting in youth programs.

Upon graduating from Davis High School in 1979, he was admitted to UC Santa Barbara in Mechanical Engineering. Through hard work and excellent scholarship, he made the Deans list and completed, in record time, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor in Computer Science and Robotics in 1983.

He worked for Westinghouse and Delco Companies as a robotics engineer before receiving an MBA, as a Deans Scholar, at UC Irvine in 1988. He then began an outstanding career in commercial real estate and finance. Over many years as a senior executive in several investment companies, he successfully managed multi-billion-dollar commercial property portfolios by executing innovative strategic business plans.

His many achievements throughout life were related to the ability to solve complex problems and to translate analyzes into comprehensive written plans.

He was a talented, thoughtful and generous person who will be missed deeply by his family, friends and business associates.

He is survived by his parents, his former wife, Lori Dutton, and their children, Jarrod (13), Connor (11). In addition, he is survived by Hayley and Casey Dutton who lived with the family, following the death of his older brother, Tyler Dutton.

An informal graveside service will be held at the Davis Cemetery (820 Pole Line Road) on Monday, March 29, 2010, at one oclock. A memorial service will be held in southern California at a later date.

I am shocked and somewhat devastated. I am so sorry to Eina & Tom. . I loved your son..he was my friend. I was the math whiz, til Ward Dutton showed up at Holmes Jr. High. I was the best skier til Ward Dutton --we raced several times. He usually won. He always had that jacket. He pushed to always win. He was so smart..made me laugh with his wit. I will miss him. -tatia davis
