Rose Stephens

March 10, 1926 — May 13, 2014

Rose Marie (Cahalan) Stephens passed away peacefully in her Davis, CA home on May 13th, 2014. She is survived by Jim, her husband of 62 years, and six of her children: Eileen (Peter) McSherry, Bill Stephens, Joe (Mary) Stephens, Susie (Norman) Finke, Mary (Dave) Rosenthal and Peggy Stephens, 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son John and her seven brothers and sister. Rose was born in Iowa in 1926. She graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, WI, and later taught biology there. She moved to California to teach biology and P.E. at Chowchilla and Hilmar high schools, before leaving to get married and raise a family. Devoted to her faith, she spend many years as a volunteer at the Sacred Heart Thrift Shop in Turlock. Rose enjoyed fishing, basketball, hiking, camping and gardening, but most of all she loved caring for and sharing time with her family. She is fondly remembered as a loving wife, a patient, kind and attentive mother, and a cherished Nana. The Rosary will be said at 7pm at Wiscombe Funeral Home, 116 D St, Davis, CA on Tuesday, May 20, with viewing from 5-7. The funeral Mass will be at 1pm on Wednesday, May 21, at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B St, Davis, CA. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
