Phyllis Snow

Phyllis was born in Kingston/Surrey, England, to Thomas and Gladys Cutler. She was the middle of three children and is survived by her older brother, Ronald Cutler, living in Crawley/Sussex, England. Her younger brother, Keith Cutler, who lived in San Carlos, Calif., passed several years ago. Phyllis grew up in England during World War II. She shared many stories of the bombings, the rationings and fleeing to shelters underground. In 1947, she immigrated to Canada under the Canadian Government scheme an assisted passage method for European immigrants. Phyllis met up with another young lady fleeing the war-torn country, the late Winifred Snow of El Macero, Calif., who eventually became her sister-in-law. During their adventure, Phyllis and Winifred worked for the Canadian Postal & Telephone Service in Montreal, eventually moving to Toronto. Several years later, Phyllis returned to England to make her way back West the proper way to repay the Canadian entry fees and apply to the U.S. Embassy for a resident visa. It was during this trip back to England aboard a ship that she met her future husband, Kenneth Wayne Snow. Ken had served in the U.S. Navy and was on his way back to Europe to tour the country on a motorcycle with a friend. Ken was smitten with Phyllis and while he traveled from country to country, he kept in touch and visited Phyllis as she continued to fight for a visa. Ken and Phyllis eventually reconnected in Long Beach, Calif., where Phyllis parents and brothers first settled in the states, and they married in January 1950. The two eventually settled in the Bay Area where Ken was working for Pan American World Airways while Phyllis raised their two sons, Gregory and Christopher, both of whom now live in Davis, Calif. Phyllis was very involved with her sons and their activities. She was a PTA leader, a Cub Scout leader, and actively participated in little league. In 1971, Ken and Phyllis purchased property and built a home in El Macero. About the same time, Phyllis obtained her real estate license and joined Lyons Real Estate in Davis. As she gained renown as a broker and real estate agent in Sacramento, Solano and Yolo counties, she established Snow & Associates Real Estate Inc. and acquired and operated a Prudential Real Estate franchise. She concluded her 33-year real estate career with Coldwell Banker Doug Arnold Real Estate in Davis. Her clients praised her gracious, caring, competitive and outstanding customer service. She earned numerous prestigious honors and awards for top sales and excellent care provided to her clients, many of whom became lasting friends. Many area residents will remember her kind and superb real estate skills. Phyllis passed away at her recent home in Eskaton Village in Roseville with family by her side. In addition to her husband, Ken, and sons Gregory and Christopher, Phyllis is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lauren Snow, and two grandsons, Geoffrey and Jeremy Snow, all of Davis. Phyllis suffered from both ovarian and breast cancer in recent years. A celebration of her life will take place at the Davis Community Church at 412 C Street on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m., followed by a reception at the El Macero County Club.
