Marsha Purves

September 12, 1944 — March 10, 2018

Marsha Purves passed away on Saturday, March 10th, after valiantly enduring cancer for the past several months.  She was surrounded by her loved ones at her home as she took this next step on her journey.  Marsha was the first born child to Geneal Cazier and Richard Death on Sept. 12, 1944.  For her childhood years she grew up in different areas of the world as her father served in the military.  She had many fond memories growing up in Washington, Kansas, Wyoming, Germany, and especially Brigham City, Utah.  She finished high school in Salinas, CA, and after community college there she transferred to Chico State to complete her Teaching Certificate. There she met George Raymond Purves, the love of her life.  They were married at Fort Ord, CA on Sept. 4, 1966.  She taught 2 years of elementary school in Gridley before she dedicated the rest of her life making her home and family her top priority.  They moved to Davis in 1971, and loved raising their family and business here.  She was an exemplary homemaker in all areas of cooking, gardening and welcoming everyone to her home.  All who have known Marsha will remember her for the twinkle in her eye, her warm smile and cheerful lively personality.   She had a gift for making people feel important, and was always concerned for everyone’s welfare.  Nothing made her happier than giving gifts to friends and her family, and hosting people in her home.

She served in her community and church in many different areas.  She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and loved working with those in her local congregation.  She was a Cub Scout Den Mother several times and in many leadership roles for her church’s women’s organization and teaching Sunday School.  She also served on countless PTA groups and other committees in which her family was involved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and will be enjoying her reunion with them.

She will always be missed, but remembered with great love by George Purves of Woodland, her sweetheart of 51 years, their five children, Stephen (Brooke Sanders) of Sacramento, Scott (Joanna Rudd) of Davis, Amy Purves of Davis, Mark (Ann Pickett) of Provo, Utah and Christopher (Angie Christensen) of Woodland. She is also survived by her sisters Kathlene (Mike) O’Brien of Clayton, CA and Linda (John) Scudder of Colfax, CA, and her 21 grandchildren, Maddy, Ana, Lilly, Lexie, Jake, Luke, Eleanor, Isaac, Sophie, Grace, Ada, George, Noah, Henry, Charlotte, Tom, Declan, Sam, Malcolm, Frank, and Dean.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 15th 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 615 Elmwood Dr., Davis, California.
