Margaret Dietrich

Margaret Eliza Luella Dietrich passed away peacefully at her home just outside of Davis on March 27, 2009. She was 88. Margaret was born to Bessie Belle (Brillinger) and William Edwin Omand in Welland, Ontario, Canada on June 29, 1920. She and her younger sister, Jean, were raised in Canada and helped their parents on their farm Green Acres. Margaret went to school in Hamilton, Ontario majoring in math and science and excelling at swimming and basketball.
In 1941 her family moved to Los Angeles, California where she worked in an airplane factory during World War II. The family later moved to Hollywood where she met her husband Clifford Dietrich. When he asked her to marry him she answered, Of course! I was wondering when youd ask.
They lived in Sherman Oaks for over 30 years where they raised their son Peter. Margaret worked in public relations for the Theater Arts Department at L.A. Valley College which led to a 30 year career as a talent agent in the motion picture/television industry. Margaret managed her own successful talent agency, The Dietrich Agency, for 16 years. She and husband Cliff, who also worked in the entertainment industry, enjoyed many weekends with family and friends sailing from the Ventura Yacht Club where they were active members.
She and her husband Cliff retired to Davis in 1989, to be closer to their son and his family. They loved being close to their grandchildren and enjoyed all that Davis had to offer. She and Cliff shared a wonderful year before he preceded her in death in 1990.
Outgoing and friendly, Margaret made new friends wherever she went who enjoyed her warmth, humor and advice. She especially loved children and animals, and was called Gramma by all who came to visit. She won several awards for her roses in the Yolo County Fair.
The last years of Margaret's life were filled with the loving attention of close friends and family. She loved her cottage next to her family with views of her chickens, barn, flowers and pasture at her new Green Acres. Margaret had a rich life which started in the countryside, was filled with love, adventures, a successful business and many friendships. She had many happy memories and especially enjoyed her final years at home again in the country.
'Gramma' will be greatly missed by her family, friends, neighbors and all who knew her. She was known for her wisdom, gentle nature and quiet strengths. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Sandy Dietrich and by grandsons Christopher and Jason Dietrich all of the Davis area; by grandson Emanual Marone, wife Michelle and three great-grandchildren Nolan, Cassadi and Emmaline of Lafayette, Louisiana; and by grandson Joshua Marone and wife Courtney of Lincoln. She is also survived by her sister Jean Stratton, niece Janet McClay and great-niece Wendy Triplett, her husband Shawn and son Dakota.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at the Davis Cemetery, 820 Pole Line Road in Davis. A reception will take place immediately following the service.
