Lois Wolfman

Lois Jeannette (Walker) Wolfman was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, March 6, 1925, and died unexpectedly in Davis, California, September 29, 2007, with her loving husband of 60 years and children at her bedside. She lived in Royal Oak and Ann Arbor, Michigan until 1966, when she and her three children, accompanied her husband in a move to Davis, California to start the new School of Medicine at U.C. Davis. She was a graduate of Royal Oak High School (June 1943) and Wayne State University where she received a Baccalaurate degree (August 1948) majoring in Home Economics. In Ann Arbor, she served as a dietician at the Victor Vaughn House and Mosher Jordan Dormitory while Earl attended medical school. Lois was a driving force of support in establishing the School of Medicine that included hosting many events for numerous candidates visiting the Davis Campus as potential faculty appointees. She was an active member of the Yolo County Medical Society for many years. Through her contacts locally and nationally she developed many friendships throughout the United States. Personally, she preferred working with others by staying in the background rather than seeking the limelight herself. As a result, she instilled love and respect from those who knew her. Her hobbies included cross-stitching, collecting early American antiques from throughout the United States, traveling, being a doting grandmother to her six grandchildren and taking care of her family. She is survived by her devoted husband Earl; daughters Nancy J. Bacon and Carol A. Edgar; and son David E. Wolfman (Mindy); and grandchildren Brian, Kevin, Kimberley, Nikola, Kiyana, and Jessica; sisters Marjorie (Schenck) and Marion (Harding); sister-in-law Beverly (Wier); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Lois touched the lives of all who knew her and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes remembrances to be made to a charity of the donors choice. A private service is planned.
