Laurence "Larry" Pierson

Laurence Merle Pierson returned to his Heavenly Father on July 5, 2021.  Larry was born on May 19, 1936 to Virginia (Garmoe) and Austin Pierson in Santa Ana, California.  He spent most of his childhood in Tustin and graduated from Palm Springs High School in 1954.  In 1958 Larry got a summer job at a restaurant in Sequoia National Park where he met a young woman named Addie Leah Belknap in a walk-in cooler.  A short time later the two were married and headed off to Provo, Utah to attend BYU.  The family began growing very quickly and within 8 years they had 5 kids.  After Larry earned his degree in Secondary Education he moved his growing family to Boron, California to teach Math.  In 1969 the family moved again to Davis CA where Larry started teaching and earned his Masters Degree in Special Education from Sacramento State.  His last child arrived after the move to Davis.

Larry had a deep love for his Savior and was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, holding many different callings including Scoutmaster, Bishopric, President of the Davis Ward Seventies, Sunday School Teacher, and Ward Clerk, just to name a few.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Addie, his parents Virginia and Austin, and his brother Richard.  Larry is survived by his sister Jan (James), children: Anne (Robert), Kenneth, Judy, Nancy, David (Janese), and Joseph (Michelle), 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A time of visitation will held Tuesday, July 13, 2021 from 10:00 to 10:45 AM.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (615 Elmwood Drive, Davis, Ca).  Interment will follow at the Davis Cemetery (820 Pole Line Road, Davis, CA).

I was one of Larry Pearson's students at valley Oaks School from 1974-76. He was a caring honest down to earth person and good teacher. He used to take us out occasionally on field trips and once a year we would go call a class camping trip. In high school I also had him for a class. I saw him a few times after high School, the last time was in 2019. I wish I had kept in better contact with him. I considered him a good friend and I will miss him very much.

Larry Pierson was one of my teachers in the 1970s. I do remember him as being a good teacher.
