Charles Bick

Charles Bick passed away in Davis on Oct. 17, 2007, at the age of 94. He was born in Oakland, Calif., on Feb. 14, 1913, and lived his entire life in California.

He worked in the San Francisco area as an accountant until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in World War II. After the war, he continued working in San Francisco area until 1952, when he and his family moved to Woodland. Charles worked as the office manager for Woodland Mill Supply Co. and later Woodland Drier and Machinery Co. from the early 1950s to 1968. He then worked as an auditor for the Franchise Tax Board until he retired in 1978.

In 1973 he moved to Sacramento and later to Roseville where he lived until 1995 when he moved to Davis. He last resided at Atria Covell Gardens.

Charles married in 1939 and was widowed in 1997. He is survived by his daughter, Marilynn Gray-Raine and her husband Frank Barton of Danville; his son, Steve Bick and his wife Jill Slater of Davis; and one grandchild, Zoe Bick.

Charles enjoyed playing golf, having taken up the game in the mid-1960s. He belonged to the Yolo Fliers Club near Woodland and later the Diamond Oaks Country Club in Roseville. He enjoyed playing bridge for many years, continuing to play the game until just a few years ago. Friends are invited to attend an informal memorial service at Atria Covell Gardens in Davis at 2 p.m. Sunday. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Sutter Davis Hospital who helped Charles through a number of medical emergencies in the last several years.
