Thirty-five years ago, when my husband was offered a faculty position at UCD, Cathy cheerfully welcomed us and helped us set up our lab. I'll never forget that as she was stocking our lab with departmental glassware she innocently assured us that she would make sure that the glassware we brought with us from our lab in Hawaii would accompany us not IF but WHEN we left! Fortunately, my husband got tenure and we were able to enjoy Cathy's sunny disposition up until her retirement from UCD. She was lovely in every respect.
