Henry "Bud" Wolf

March 2, 1939 ~ October 23, 2017 (age 78)

Henry ‘Bud’ Wolf was born March 2, 1939 in Bottineau, North Dakota, and died at home in Davis, surrounded by his family, on October 23, 2017.

Bud grew up in Brentwood (east bay) and graduated from Liberty High School in 1957.  While attending the Contra County Fair in 1957, where Bud was a member of the Future Farmers of America and showed sheep,  Bud and his wife Judy met and began dating.  They continued to date until their marriage in 1960.   Bud and Judy have been long-time residents of Davis.  Bud attended UC Davis in 1957 where he achieved a Master’s degree in Animal Science in 1964.

After graduating from UC Davis, Bud worked in the School of Veterinary Medicine, Laboratory for Energy Research, where he conducted research and was the assistant director for nearly fifteen years.  Due to health issues Bud retired and became active in community service.

Bud joined the Rotary Club of Davis in 1986, where he followed his passion to help abused and disabled children.  He was the founder of the club’s child abuse prevention program.  He and his club developed a fundraiser, Big Night, to raise money to support local non-profit organization who offer primary child abuse prevention programs.  He was instrumental in helping to establish the Yolo Crisis Nursery and worked to help support the Multi-Disciplinary Interview Center.  Bud also served on the City of Davis Parks and Recreation Commission where he helped establish a recreational program for disabled children.  Additionally, Bud served on the Yolo County Children’s Alliance advisory board where he represented community service organizations.

After retiring from UC Davis, Bud joined a Delta area yacht sales business, where he enjoyed selling yachts and teaching buyers how to drive their yacht.  He loved the water.

Bud is survived by Judy, his loving wife of 57 years; son Richard; daughters Deborah (Keith Comes), Laura Tomasello; and grandchildren Tanner and Ben Comes; Madelyn and Olivia Tomasello, all of whom loved him very much and miss him tremendously.  Bud was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Joyce Wolf, and his brother, David.  He is also survived by his brother Ronald (Nancy) and sister Doris Hanson (James).

Bud will be remembered for his passion for preventing child abuse, his integrity and honesty, his forthright manner, and his sense of humor.  He loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his Springer Spaniel, Thomas.  Bud wrote numerous wonderful Western poems.  He enjoyed reading mystery novels, playing golf, and carving wooden ducks. Bud also loved to cook.
A celebration of Bud’s life will be held in Davis on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Davis Community Church Fellowship Hall, 2:00-4:00 pm, corner of 4th and C streets. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Rotary Club of Davis Charities CAPP fund in his memory.
